Watching the birds.

We started out a few years ago with a couple of simple bird feeders around Christmas so the birds would not go hungry in the winter. (After reading a book about animals in the winter.) Since then we have added different feeders here and there and different types of bird seed. We are often drawn away from whatever it is we were doing to simply watch the birds. The boys still get so excited. Even though there is almost always a bird or a squirrel eating - it's still amazing to watch them - we never seem to tire of it. One of our favorites is the feeder on the window. It sounds like someone is knocking at our window every time the birds peck and crack the seeds. That took some getting used to but now it is a welcomed and familiar noise.
