These are the woods that seem to make our yard go on forever. On Monday of this week we were out in shorts - yes, it was that warm. Yesterday, it SNOWED! Of course we were out in that!! Snow is a big deal to us. The boys decided to follow the water that had appeared from what has always been a dry creek bed far into the woods. The boys were awe struck - the woods had totally changed and was alive with the sights and sounds of rushing water. They thought they knew these woods well since they spend so much of their time exploring them - but the full creek and newly downed trees changed all perspective. On their adventure they discovered what at first they thought might be dinosaur bones! ;) Upon closer inspection we are guessing they are probably from a deer...stray cow?? It looks like it might be a rib bone and a vertebrae from the spine?? We will be researching this more. They also found a cool piece of wood, a neat rock and a very nasty, wet shirt which they hung on a branch to dry. In less than 15 minutes it was frozen solid. I decided that even thought the boys could not feel the cold - it might be time to head back to the warmth of the house. It was not so easy to convince Alex and Ethan though. Zac was at least content to just catch snowflakes on his tongue and call it a day. As I tucked them in bed later that night the excitement was still on their faces and in their voices. I guess when you are a young boy nothing beats a day in the woods and the discovery of skeletal remains! ;)
